The BC Consensus on Brain Injury is a province-wide research and community engagement initiative working to improve how British Columbia understands and supports people living with brain injury, particularly where brain injury intersects with mental health, substance use and addiction.
The project brings together people with lived experience, families, healthcare professionals, community organizations, researchers, and policymakers to share knowledge, identify gaps in services, and develop meaningful, evidence-informed solutions that have the capacity to make great change. This important initiative works toward creating a shared set of priorities for improving care, awareness, education, and support for individuals and families affected by brain injury across BC.
In recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31st, VBIS is hosting a free educational presentation from 1-2 PM at our Downtown Location (Unit C100-633 Courtney Street, Victoria, BC V8W 1B9).
Beyond the Overdose: Understanding Brain Injury, Mental Health and Addiction in the Context of Opioid Overdose Survival
This presentation will share key findings from the three-year British Columbia Consensus on Brain Injury, Mental Health and Addictions research project, raising awareness of the potential impacts of non-fatal opioid overdose, including brain injury and its intersection with ongoing mental health and substance use challenges. Drawing on community perspectives, the research identifies priorities and solutions to better support people experiencing these interconnected issues across BC.
Join us on August 31 from 1–2 PM for this free educational session. Register today through Eventbrite to reserve your spot.
Here at VBIS, we know the importance of understanding the longer-term impacts of the drug crisis, especially in relation to brain injury. This powerful knowledge will allow us to continue to grow and shape our mission of supporting, educating and advocating for people living with brain injuries and their communities.
