Ride or Die? Why May is Motorcycle Awareness Month.

Each May, Motorcycle Awareness Month reminds us of something simple but critical: we all share the road and the consequences of inattention can be severe.

As warmer weather brings out more motorcycle riders, it’s an important time to recognize the enjoyment of motorcycling, as well as an often-overlooked reality: the strong connection between motorcycle crashes and brain injuries. Unlike drivers in enclosed vehicles, riders have little physical protection in the event of a crash.

Many motorcycle collisions involve other vehicles, often due to:

  • Failure to yield
  • Distracted driving
  • Misjudging speed or distance

Small actions can make a big difference. Double-checking blind spots, allowing extra space, and staying alert can help prevent serious accidents and potential brain injuries.

Motorcycle Awareness Month isn’t just about rider safety — it’s about collective responsibility. Looking out for one another on the road helps protect everyone in our community.
