Connecting With Our Community

VBIS had the pleasure of attending a community gathering hosted by United Way South Island at the beautiful Esquimalt Gorge Pavilion. This beautiful location is also where our upcoming Gala, An Evening of Black and White… Because Gray Matters will be held on March 7, 2026!

United Way is an organization that has served Southern Vancouver Island for over 80 years, providing over 5 million British Columbians with emergency resources. Their areas of focus include: Emergency Response, Prioritizing Indigenous Values and Self-Determination, Children & Youth, Seniors, Poverty, Mental Health, and Food Security. All of their areas of support have the capacity to intersect with how we can do better to support our clients at VBIS in a holistic way.

During our afternoon with them, we gathered with other local organizations, partners, and community members to learn, connect, and converse. We appreciated the opportunity to explore more of United Way’s current priorities and services, and how we can extend this information to our VBIS family.

Events like these remind us how powerful collaboration can be. It was inspiring to connect with fellow service providers, exchange ideas, and discover new ways we can work together to better support our entire community of people across the South Island.

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to United Way South Island for hosting such a welcoming and informative event. Their continued leadership and dedication help create meaningful connections and positive change throughout our region.
