The Victoria Brain Injury Society has launched a new, free counselling program

A new partnership between the Victoria Brain Injury Society and the University of Victoria pairs people with brain injuries in need of counselling, and counselling students in need of work experience.

Our new counselling program offers our clients access to one-on-one counselling sessions at no cost. Delivered by skilled and compassionate student counsellors as part of their Masters-level practicum, it compliments our suite of programs and client services, offering emotional and mental wellbeing to those we serve.

“This is an opportunity for our clients to receive really valuable mental health support without having to pay. Often mental health support services that are tailored to Acquired Brain Injury Survivors are limited so it’s hard to find appropriate care. This program is another avenue that we can offer to our clients.” – Pam Prewett, Executive Director

We are proud to be working with the next generation of mental health professionals , and grateful for the opportunity to enhance our support services through this partnership.

Pam Prewett, Executive Director of VBIS and Kara Windram, a Masters of Counselling student, spoke about the program on All Points West with Jason D’Souza. Kara is among the first cohort of UVic Masters of Counselling students to do their practicum with the society. Listen to the interview here (6 minutes).
