Our Course Offerings
Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) 101
3-4 week program
VBIS’ flagship program provides an informative introduction to brain anatomy & brain injury. In this knowledge-building course, students will engage in discussions concerning brain function & brain injury, with a focus on the causes and effects of injury, and recovery.
ABI 101 is offered to clients in a 4-week format, and as a shortened 3-week course for family, friends, caretakers, and community members.
ABI 101 is a required pre-requisite for the Coping Strategies program.
Coping Strategies
24 week program
An informative in-depth course for concussion and brain injury survivors. We look at strategies for managing daily life and dealing with the effects of brain injury. The program includes several engaging guest speakers.
This course is currently offered online and runs twice a year. Two new Coping Strategies sessions will begin this October, occurring on Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons.
Participants must complete ABI 101 before enrolling in Coping Strategies.
Carrying On With Coping
Biweekly drop-in
After completing the ABI 101 and Coping Strategies courses, clients may choose to continue their healing journey by attending this bi-weekly course, currently offered every second Tuesday from 12:30 pm until 2:30 pm.
This program aims to help brain injury survivors further develop their coping skills by discussing both the challenging and rewarding parts of their recovery process with other survivors and our instructors.
