Brain injury recovery looks different for everyone, but connection can help. Through our weekly peer support sessions and dedicated Women’s and Men’s Peer Support Groups, you’ll find a warm community of people who understand what you’re going through.

Yoga
Find strength, balance, and calm through movement. Our Gentle Yoga & Stretch program offers an inclusive, supportive environment where people of all abilities can improve flexibility, reduce stress, and reconnect with their bodies at their own pace.

Music Therapy
Music enables people to feel a sense of belonging, develop their personal identity, and express themselves creatively. Our music therapist, Carmen Eisenhauer, uses both musical and clinical interventions to help brain injury survivors improve, maintain, and restore an optimal state of well-being.

Walking Group
Enjoy fresh air in the outdoors, support your wellbeing through gentle physical activity, and connect with others who understand your journey with our weekly walking group. Distances alternate each week between short (0.85 km) and long walks (1.5 km) to accommodate people of all abilities.

Mindfulness
Discover the benefits of mindfulness in a supportive group setting. Through meditation, journaling, goal-setting, and other guided practices, you’ll develop practical skills that can help you manage everyday challenges with greater confidence and calm.

Art Therapy
This therapeutic program offers clients the chance to explore the world of visual arts, learn to expand their creativity, and unleash their imagination. Participants are able to work on their own projects or follow the therapeutic art practice led by our facilitator. No prior experience is necessary and all supplies are provided.

Equine-Assisted Learning
Find healing and connection through ground-based activities with horses at Heart Lake Farm. Partnering with The Together In Stride Foundation, this supportive program helps you develop confidence, communication skills, and meaningful relationships.

4-Week Program (Online & In Person)
Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) 101
VBIS’ flagship educational program, ABI 101 offers an introduction to brain anatomy, brain injury, and recovery through engaging discussions. The course is offered as a 4-week program for clients, family members, friends, caregivers, and community members. ABI 101 is a prerequisite for the Coping Strategies program.
28-Week Program (Online & In Person)
Coping Strategies
Coping Strategies is an in-depth course for concussion and brain injury survivors that explores practical ways to manage the everyday effects of brain injury. Featuring engaging guest speakers, the program is offered online twice a year. Participants must complete ABI 101 before enrolling.
Bi-Weekly Drop-In (Online)
Carrying On with Coping
Carrying On with Coping is a bi-weekly drop-in program for clients who have completed ABI 101 and Coping Strategies. Held every second Thursday from 12:30–2:30 p.m. online, the program provides a supportive space to strengthen coping skills, share experiences, and continue your recovery alongside fellow survivors.
