The Power of Peer Support

At VBIS, our Peer Support program offers a welcoming space where brain injury survivors can connect with others who understand their experiences. Through shared conversations, encouragement, and mutual understanding, peer support provides an opportunity to learn from others and build meaningful connections.

Why Peer Support Matters

Life after a brain injury can bring unexpected changes. You may find that everyday tasks feel different, relationships change, or others struggle to understand what you are experiencing. Adjusting to these changes can sometimes feel isolating, but you do not have to navigate the journey alone.

Every brain injury journey is different, and there is no single path to recovery. Peer Support offers opportunities to:

  • Connect with others: Meet people who understand the challenges of living with a brain injury.
  • Share experiences: Talk about your experiences in a supportive environment, at your own pace.
  • Learn from one another: Exchange practical strategies, ideas, and ways of navigating everyday life.
  • Build confidence: Recognize your strengths, celebrate progress, and learn from others who have faced similar challenges.
  • Reduce isolation: Develop friendships and feel more connected to a community.
  • Give and receive encouragement: Support others while receiving understanding and encouragement yourself.

Find a Peer Support Group at VBIS

VBIS offers several Peer Support groups to help clients find a setting that works for them. Whether you prefer meeting in person or joining virtually, there are different opportunities to connect.

We also recognize that brain injury affects more than the individual. Family members, friends, partners, and caregivers may have their own questions, challenges, and need for connection. Our monthly Stronger Together support group offers a space specifically for the people supporting someone living with a brain injury.

Ready to Connect?

You do not have to navigate life after brain injury on your own. Whether you are looking for understanding, practical ideas, new friendships, or simply a place where you feel comfortable being yourself, Peer Support may be a helpful place to start.
