New Partnership with Local Optometrist

VBIS clients afforded a chance to restore their vision, bringing them one step closer to recovery

This week, the Victoria Brain Injury Society (VBIS) is announcing a brand-new partnership with neuro-visual optometrist, Dr. Cameron McCrodan. The collaboration will provide $50,000 annually for brain injury survivors whose injuries have led to debilitating vision problems.

McCrodan’s clinic, Opto-mization Neurovisual Performance, has been serving patients in the Greater Victoria Area for the last several years. His work has given countless individuals with serious head injuries a new chance at leading a fulfilling life. According to McCrodan, many people require vision therapy following a traumatic event, but are told by their doctor that their issues are solely psychological.

A significant portion of VBIS’ over 650 clients report experiencing problems with their eyesight. These include double vision, increased sensitivity to light, trouble focusing, and issues with depth perception. Often, vision is the largest barrier preventing full recovery. Toni King, a client and Peer Supporter at VBIS, still struggles every day with her eyesight despite numerous surgeries and years of physiotherapy.

“It’s difficult navigating day-to-day life,” she admits. “Getting my vision back would change everything. The thought fills me with hope.” Staff at VBIS are thrilled that they will soon be able to better support brain injury survivors through this new partnership. The whole team is grateful for Dr. Cameron McCrodan’s generous contribution.
